Weathering with You anime exhibit arrives in Tokyo with special dishes on cafe menu
Indulge in the taste of a glorious rain-strewn Makoto Shinkai movie.
Japanese filmmaker, animator and manga artist Makoto Shinkai quickly became one of Japan’s most respected and successful directors. His successful animated film your name became the first unrealized animated film by Hayao Miyazaki to earn more than 10 billion yen ($ 88.5 million) when it was released in 2016, and this year its last feature film, Alter with you, enjoyed the same success, earning 10 billion yen in just 34 days after its July 19 release.

The exhibit is organized in conjunction with the Japan Weather Association, which will feature fun and educational exhibits explaining the weather phenomena that appear in the film.
There will also be cute digital signage at the exhibit, showing daily weather information with the movie’s star characters.
What really got everyone excited about the new exhibit, which will be held at Matsuya Department Store in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district, is the fact that two cafes inside the building will also be participating in the Alter with you Event. At the MG Café on the eighth floor – the same floor as the exhibition – diners will be able to order the following items.
?? The sanctuary at the entrance to Sky Mojito (900 yen [US$8.33], plus taxes)
A blank mojito with chia seeds to look like sky fish and mint to look like floating leaves during the scene where Hina is flying through the rooftop shrine and into the sky.
?? The Anvil Cloud Matcha Affogato (1,000 yen plus tax)
Dry ice and cotton candy are used to recreate the world above the anvil cloud. This candy is dusted with matcha powder and hidden beyond the clouds is a mound of ice cream.
?? The Perfect shortbread with strawberries and raindrops (1,400 yen plus tax)
This raindrop-shaped dessert, designed to represent the shortcake Hina adores, features a variety of different textures, thanks to its layers of sponge cake, strawberry jelly, chunks of cereal and ice cream.
?? The Chiffon Cake Above The Clouds (1,300 yen plus tax)
Designed to resemble the world above the clouds, this dish features a tea-flavored chiffon cake that is as light and chewy as a cumulonimbus cloud. The cake can be enjoyed with fruit and espuma whipped cream.
?? The Fruitnade Sky (800 yen plus tax)
These fruity drinks are made from an herbal tea that turns into different colors of the sky with the addition of lemon juice. The mango variety will turn yellow when lemon juice is added, while the peach flavor will turn orange and the strawberry flavor will turn red, representing the deep fiery colors of the setting sun.
The Utsukushikunaru beer garden, located on the top floor of Matsuya Ginza, will also participate in the Alter with you festivities, offering the following menu items to diners.
?? The Anvil Cloud Pancake (1,463 yen plus tax)
A stack of pancakes filled with layers of salad and topped with a cloud of meringue anvil.
Hina’s dessert plate (1,278 yen plus tax)
A matching tray containing a strawberry cake, a muslin cake and a black jelly in the shape of a choker in honor of the character Hina.
?? The Business Weather Perfect Colorful (1,250 yen plus tax)
This dessert was designed in honor of the weather company created by Hodaka, Hina and Nagi in the film. Shades of a colorful sky are created with an assortment of fruits, jelly, trifle and coconut gel.
?? The Sky blue cream soda (1,065 yen plus tax)
The refreshing blue soda represents a blue sky, while a layer of cream and a topping of cotton candy resemble clouds. At the bottom of the drink you will find a lemon jelly that even children will enjoy.
?? The Orange tea at sunset (1,000 yen plus tax)
Dark orange hues represent the colors of the sky at sunset as Hina prays towards the setting sun.
In addition to being able to enjoy art and arty food and drink at the exhibit, there will also be over 300 different Alter with you products available for purchase, including a large number of items and products exclusive to the exhibition produced in collaboration with famous designers and brands.
The menu and products of the exhibition and collaboration will be available from September 25 to October 7.
